Best Rest

The way I am, once I identify a problem, I run the solution to ground. The problem is, I’m dead tired. No way can I run.  Fortunately, the solution is to go to ground. I’ve spent way more time than usual horizontal this past week. Some of it with my eyes closed. Very restful.

Some of it with my eyes open, reading in bed. During daytime hours dedicated to laundry, cooking, and stuff that needs doing. hee hee hee I highly recommend it. For the rest, of course. Also, for the delicious naughtiness.

The feeling of playing hooky is so strong, could it be…? I’m a bit of a workaholic? A lot of a workaholic? Perish the thought! Who else is going to get things done? That confirms it. I’m a workaholic.

What’s the detox? The current regimen: extra mindful rest. The rehab: listening to my body. Rest when I need it. Let things go. Trust things will get done. But the craving! To get just one more thing done. Make it stop! Cup of coffee stat! Up-and-at-em!

I’m so much more relaxed when I don’t drink coffee. Less driven. So what?!! Things to do, places to go, people to see! For the past week, I’ve confined myself to the morning mug, and…. Surprise. Surprise. I’ve slept more restfully. Awakened more ready for the day. Feel calmer and more alert.

It probably hasn’t hurt that I’ve restarted (after months of “forgetting”) my supplements: vitamin D (2000 units/day), calcium, and a multi-vitamin.

And I’ve learned, desultorily browsing a book (in bed) called The Power Of Rest, by Matthew Edlund, M.D., that if I sleep only one hour more a night, I will lose ten to fifteen pounds! Now, I’m motivated.
